About Jim Barber About Jim Barber
Jim Barber in action

If you want to know more about Jim Barber, you should know that I always respected Harland Sanders. (You know him as "Colonel Sanders" of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame.) I respect people who stand behind their products so much that they are willing to associate their names and faces with their products. I respect Debbi Fields (Mrs. Fields cookies), Wally Amos (Famous Amos cookies), and Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield (Ben & Jerry's ice cream) for the same reason.

(I just noticed that all of the examples I used were of people who sold food items. That probably tells you something else about me, right there. I like food. I also like dark chocolate, dark beer, and dark comedies. I'm not sure what that indicates. And I like people, Not just dark ones — I like people of all shades. But I digress....)

Now where was I? Oh yeah, that's why I'm taking a moment to tell you that yes, Virginia, there is a Jim Barber. I'm not some paid corporate spokesperson or fictitious character. I'm flesh and blood.

Want to know more? I live in a suburb of Fort Lauderdale, Florida in the Good Ol' United States of America. (If you live outside the US and you don't know where Fort Lauderdale is, it's about 350 kilometers south of Disney World. Or about 500 km north of Havana Cuba.) I enjoy walking when the weather is cool, and splashing in the pool ("The Think Tank") when it's hot.

I've been a professional speaker (both as a keynoter and trainer) for most of my adult life, and I've addressed hundreds of organizations in six countries. I\ve been an active member of Toastmasters International, the National Speakers Association and the Florida Speakers Association for for almost two decades. But recently something else has captured my attention....

The Internet!

The Internet fascinates me with its enormous potential for information delivery. Two challenges that have always impacted training have been travel and scheduling. The Internet eliminates both problems in one fell swoop! And TooterTalk is dedicated to delivering the most useful information in the most convenient way possible.

But I was talking about Jim Barber, not about the Internet. By this point, I hope you've realized that I'm a real person... not a celebrity (yet), not an icon (drat!), and certainly not a fictitious spokesperson. I'm just me.

The best way to reach me is by email. Email me at jim@thebarbershop.com. (Keep in mind that email is unreliable, and so if you don't hear back from me, your note may have gotten lost in cyberspace. Try, try again.)

If I'm writing or splashing in The Think Tank or on-the-road, I don't answer my phone. But you can call and leave a message at 954-476-9252 and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Finally, it may be olde-fashioned, but physical delivery still works. Write me at:

Jim Barber
1101 Marcano Blvd.
Plantation, FL 33322-5118 USA

That's about it. If you want to know more, you can visit The Barber Shop at www.thebarbershop.com. You can also Google on Jim Barber and you'll see me listed. But ignore anything that says I'm a ventriloquist; that's a different Jim Barber. (I have many talents, but ventriloquism isn't one of them.) And ignore anything that's generally derogatory. (That's probably me, but I'd rather you ignore it.)

For now, this is the real Jim Barber, wishing you every success! Arf!

Jim "Mad Dog" Barber

PS — Why "Mad Dog"? I'll talk about that another day....
